Dateline: 23 August 2016 AD
Noah Sanders, author of Born-Again Dirt: Farming to the Glory of God is hosting another Redeeming The Dirt conference down in Alabama.
Brian Oldreive will be speaking. He is the founder of Foundations For Farming, an African-based Christian ministry that teaches people (primarily the poor) how to be self reliant by growing their own food. I've written a few times over the years at my previous blog about Foundations For Farming. Click Here for one blog post.
While I'm on the subject of Foundations For Farming, I'd like to recommend the following YouTube video, which is a favorite of mine. It features Johann van der Ham speaking about the Foundations For Farming approach. At 4:39 into the film, Mr. van der Ham gives a two-minute soliloquy of wonderment and praise about a sunflower, and I never tire of hearing it.
There is such beauty in this sin-corrupted world (if we have the eyes to see it), and Mr. van der Ham finishes by asking "How beautiful will it be when God makes everything new?" That's something for those of us on our Upland journey to meditate on.
Back to the Redeeming The Dirt Conference...
Joel Salatin will be there too. I don't suppose I need to tell you about Joel, except to maybe mention that he has a new book, which is very good, and I wrote about it here: Joel Salatin and The Pigness of Pigs.
So it looks like it's going to be an excellent event. I hope you'll check it out. Noah says that if readers of this blog use the promo code upland20 when registering, you can get 20% off the cost of registration. But you have to register by the end of August to get that discount. Click this link for full details: Redeeming The Dirt 2016
By the way, I do not make any money when you pre-register with that code. I'm blogging about this conference because I think it's such a great thing.
No, I won't be there. Noah invites me every year but Alabama is just too far for me to travel at this time in my life.
I would love to go! That's my birthday and I can't think of a better gift to ask for. I just don't know who would milk my cow while we're gone... I'll have to think about this.
ReplyDeleteFeeling sulky that I am way over here in Australia - sounds like it will be a fabulous event.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the Redeeming the Dirt conference for the past two years (which I believe have been the only two so far). It is an incredibly refreshing time from both a spiritual and agricultural perspective. The heart for God and humility exhibited by the leaders of Foundations for Farming is quite convicting and sobering, in a Godly way. The fellowship is incredible; the messages are encouraging and powerful; and the truth of God's Word takes priority, as it always should. I would encourage all who can, from serious farmers to backyard gardeners, to consider signing up. You won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI've been drawn to this event & ministry - would love to go. TY for the video, lovely!
